P.O.B.'s Cardinal Speak sent 12 students to compete in the Asheville H.S. Speech and Debate Tournament. For almost half the team, this was their first tournament.
The team continues to compete, grow, and flourish. The following were some significant highlights:
- Spencer placed 2nd in Impromptu
- C.J. placed 5th in Impromptu
- Lizbeth placed 5th in Declamation
Other significant accomplishments were the number of first time competitors: Jasmin, Alyssa, Carlos, Gylana, and Simeon competed in their first speech and debate tournament. Each excelled in their own right, gaining essential experience from the tournament and important feedback through the judges' ballots.
Kord pushed himself beyond his comfort zone in a new event; in Original Oratory, he shared his ideas and insights on music and overcoming adversity. Isaiah also continues to evolve, developing and tuning his impromptu speaking skills. The leadership of both these seniors is invaluable to the team.
Above all, Courtney and Kelon - the president and vice-president of the club - continue to encourage and challenge the team to grow. Their tremendous skill and willingness to give their time to the team impels the team to compete at its best. (They also placed 15th and 16th in Oratorical Interpretation.)
Finally, a special thanks to the help from those that volunteer their time to judge. Sonya, Martin, Ana, and Keith judged various events; their time and energy is necessary to both energize our team and help ensure that the team is able to compete.
